Don Packard - Legacy 2017

Don Packard enters the Ann Arbor Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame as a Legacy Award winner.

A Pioneer grad and three-year letter winner in water polo and swimming, Don is being recognized for successfully leading the Pioneer Water Polo team for 15 years.

Don’s teams netted five state championships, four runners-up spots, and never finished lower than fourth place.

In 2001, Don’s final year as coach, the team finished with a perfect 41-0 record, a state championship, and national recognition in a Sports Illustrated article.

In honor of his team’s successes, Don was named Michigan Water Polo Coach of the Year in 1997 and 2001.

Don Packard’s commitment to his alma mater includes his status as a faculty member in the English department since 1988 and service as Department Chair as of 2011.

Don also served as an assistant swim team coach for five years.
